Today I am sharing part 2 of my fall indoor cleaning list. You can find part 1 here if you haven’t read it yet. I realized today as our temperatures are dropping I have to finish up the list as well as finish up this post so that you guys can finish up as well! Let’s hop on back in!

Filters

It is so important to make sure you’re changing out your filters. We have an electric furnace so we only use filters when out heat it on. It is usually hard for me to remember to change them so I wanted to remind you all too in case you forget as well. You want to make sure that you’re checking and changing them often, I change ours monthly during the winter months.

Dryer Vent

This will kind of fall under the topic of appliances but this is an important one so I wanted to talk about it separately. You can get tons of dryer vent cleaners out there. I can’t honestly recommend any one product from amazon to link for you. My dad usually cleans mine for me. My advice is to just do some research before purchasing. If you’re unsure how to do it, call a professional in to do it for you. I found this really interesting article about preventing dryer fires.

Clean Blinds

I hate this chore. Does anyone else? Some people take theirs down and wash them in their bathtub. If you want to do that, more power to you! I just have one of these and spray it with whatever cleaner I am using at the time.

Bring Seasonal Items Out

While the weather is still decent I am going ahead and getting all of our seasonal items out. We use this boot tray to put wet, drippy shoes on in the wintertime. We have one by our front door and one by our back door. Purchasing a heavier doormat is a good idea also!

Weather Proof

We like to cover our windows in the wintertime to make it a little more weather friendly. Duck Brand makes this high-quality indoor window covering that I have used every year for the last 10 years. It has some tape that goes around your window frame, you cut the plastic to size and place on the tape over your window. Then just blow dry it and it shrinks to your window. We see a huge difference in our electric bill.

Change Smoke Alarm Batteries

If you do nothing else from these 2 posts, I hope you do this. I might be a little over paranoid (thanks anxiety) but house fires terrify me! I have a friend who just lost EVERYTHING in a house fire. Thankfully her family wasn’t home at the time so everyone was safe. It could happen to anyone at anytime and it’s always best to be prepared and have new smoke alarm batteries with working alarms. Go ahead and go over your fire plan with your family and kids while you’re at it!

Well, that wraps up my fall cleaning series for this year. I’ll be sharing a refresher cleaning after Christmas this year and will be sharing some spring cleaning tips as well. In the meantime, if you haven’t checked out my fall outdoor list it’s here!
